"I don't remember filling that out."
"No worries. You would've gotten this taken care of because you're on a fixed income like Social Security, disability, retired, or still working—which one are you on?"
"I already have life insurance."
"That's exactly why I'm calling. I'm a Policy Service Director, so my job is a little different than the agent who first set you up. I just review your policy and make sure it was set up correctly. Your agent should have mentioned I'd be reaching out—did they go over that with you?"
"You don't work with my insurance company."
"I work with all of the 32 top rated carriers throughout the state. You would've been set up with one of the companies I work with, which is why they have me reaching out."
"I'm not interested."
"Interested in what? You already have it. I'm a Policy Service Director, so my job is a little different than the agent who first set you up. I just review your policy and make sure it was set up correctly. Your agent should have mentioned I'd be reaching out—did they go over that with you?"
"I want to think about it."
"I completely understand, but we don't even know if you're approved yet. So what we're going to do is at least do half of the application so we can get the medical approval. From there we can see if it is something that makes sense for you to move forward with."
"I can't afford it."
"I completely understand. Now I mainly work with people on Social Security, disability, and fixed income, so when it comes to affordability you guys actually get pre-negotiated rates to make sure that you guys do have that coverage. Does that make sense?"
"I don't give my social out over the phone."
"Neither do I, unless it's for insurance or something important. Now the life insurance company's gonna need it for two reasons: the first reason is so that way, God forbid something happens to you, they have your social to match with your death certificate; and second of all to make sure that money reaches your beneficiary when you pass away. Go ahead when you're ready."
"I don't give my bank info out over the phone."
"I got the routing number on my end. I'm gonna read that to you. Go ahead and grab a checkbook, mobile app, or bank statement with that info on it and I'm gonna read it to you. Sorry to make you run around."
"I've got insurance through my job."
"That's exactly why I'm calling. The coverage you have through your job expires 31 days after you quit, retire, or get fired. So what we're doing is getting you caught up with all the other members and making sure you have your permanent and portable coverage in place so that way when you retire you're not paying an arm and a leg for coverage. Does that make sense?"
"The VA covers my funeral and burial."
"I mainly work with veterans and I'm familiar with the process. They pay for up to $5,000 of the funeral, and funeral costs are about $15,000. So what we're doing is catching you up with all the other veterans and making sure you have the coverage to make up for the inflation."
"I'm donating my body."
"I understand. Now just because you're donating your body doesn't mean that they're gonna take it—you're just on a list to donate your body. So what that means is unless there's a certain reason or illness on why they would want to research your body, or unless you're perfectly healthy when you pass away, they're not gonna accept it, which would leave the debt behind to [beneficiary]. So what we do is set this up and put your coverage in place because the worst thing that could happen is your [daughter/family] has no coverage, and the best case they can get an extra $15,000 if they accept your body."
"I can't pay for it today."
"That's completely okay. Today is the hardest part—picking the best option for you and getting you approved. We can pick which day it will start and come out each month."
"I have no dependents."
"You sound exactly like my dad. So the reason he actually has life insurance is for the equity—all of the money he has been investing each year grows at a 4.8% interest which he can withdraw tax free. That gives a lot of extra income when you do end up retiring."
"I've got money set aside in the bank."
"I completely understand. Now the reason you would get the life insurance is just because it's growing at a 4.8% interest rate, so it's basically like a glorified savings account. You would just be relocating that money."
"I need to talk it over with my spouse/family."
"I completely understand. Now like I was saying earlier, my job is just to see whether or not you're able to get approved medically. So we're gonna jump into an application and see whether or not you're approved so that way you have something to talk about with your spouse."
Note: Never pitch the husband without the wife, but you could pitch the wife without the husband.
